Grindelwald to Bäregg hütte has been one of my favorite hikes so far in Switzerland. I really love the Grindelwald area; the town is charming, the mountains are absolutely breathtaking, and it’s a place I’ve found myself coming back to over and over again. And this hike is no different! The trail offers a steady incline, stunning views, and a diverse trail. You start the trail in the woods as your make your way up to the top of the Pfingstegg Gondola. You could take the gondola up, but it would be a pretty short hike, it took me less than an hour to hike up to the gondola. From here, the trail opens up quite a bit, as you make your way along cliffside around the mountain, don’t worry it’s totally safe and the views are incredible – glaciers, waterfalls, and panorama views pretty much the entire time. The last 30 minutes to the hut have some mini-switchbacks, which got the heart pumping. It took just under two hours to make it up to the hut. As I arrived Swiss fighter jets flew through the valley, it was very cool to see. I had a beer at the hut and admired the views of the glaciers then headed back down to Grindelwald. On the way down, I cut off the trail to the gondola and went straight to the town, this part of the trail was in the woods once again and then some farm land where we ran into some cows along the trail. Total trip time with breaks less than 4 hrs – 2 hrs up, 30 mins at hut, little over hr down.
